breath test-does anyone know and any tips on how to deal with it

ds3 has to go for some breath test next month, something to do with lactose it says on the letter, but the appt is not till 1pm and he cannot eat all day, and cannot drink other than water, he has speech and language disorder with many asd traits and appt is to try and determine what food intolerances maybe causing his constant loose motions, to be polite. has anyone else heard of this or does anyone know any tips on how to persuade a asd child not to eat all morning, because in his world, 7am is breakfast time, 10.30 am in snack time, and 12.00pm is lunch time, thats gonna be at least 3 major meltdowns cos things arent right. tbh i am thinking of cancelling appt as his nappies seem to be settling down on their own finally, he has been on gluten free for about 18mths and have snuck a few things back in without it causing a prob. hmmm, sorry, what i really want is for them to make sure there is no medical reason he cant use the loo, cos bless him he tries, but never does anything. anyway, enough waffling, thanks in advance.

Is there no way they can re-arrange the appointment for the morning of another day, or is the timing crucial to the test? I think I would be having a meltdown if I couldn't eat until 1pm!
