The Ed. Psych first recommended a Moderate Learning Difficulties School for DS1 (ASD) but when we visited we were not convinced it was right for him although there were many good points about the school. The school is a long distance from our home and the provision for ASD quite weak (IMO). Also physically, it looks more like something that has been bombed out on the Gaza Strip than a school . We were keener on the ASD unit at a closer school - but still not that close. The Ed. Psych. has now come up with a third option - an Autism specific school within walking distance of our home. You are probably wondering why I did not think of it in the first place. The reason is that it changed its name from 'X school' to 'X Residential School' so I thought wrongly that it had stopped taking day pupils. The school is very small (only 18 pupils in total and thats primary and secondary ). I have not visited but it seems to be highly thought of on the 'autism circuit'. It would be a huge relief to have come certainty for next August !
