DLA - mid rate and high rate care component

Can someone remind me of the criteria for high rate care.

I've just started home edding ds who has AS. I took him out of school because his needs weren't being met, his autism barely being recognised.

But I have a feeling that high rate care only applies to those children who need attention during the night - is that right?

Is it worth informing DWP of our change in circumstances, or should I save myself the bother?

Ta.

I think so. We never got high rate care for ds1 who has AS but did get it for dd who has quadraplegic CP and needs 24 hour care.
The DWP don't care if your are home educating or schooling to be honest.

Higher rate care is for those that need attention during the night. HTH

Does his AS mean that he is up in the night when other children his age would be in bed?
That can lead to children with AS getting the higher rate.

Thanks for that peeps. Confirmed what I suspected.

I think you need to be up to help your child at least 5 nights a week for at least ?20 minutes when the adults would normally be in bed ( + significant day time care of course) to get higher rate.

I wrote on our form that we regularly need to 'listen out' for ds when he wakes in the night and sometimes need to get up and settle him back in bed. We also need to listen out for him in the morning as he wakes at about 5.30. I made it clear that we don't usually have to actually get up but we do need to listen out to make sure he stays upstairs. We got awarded higher rate care.

We got higher, i stated that dd2 wakes some nights and needs to be settled also that she wakes at 5am.

snap with ds3 marne, also that ds3 is still in pull ups and may need changing in the night, he has had high rate from being 3 and its been re-awarded last yr which i didnt really expect.
