Does anyone else have autistic children who vocalise CONSTANTLY?

I tune out most of the time, but sometimes it gets me (like the way you don't normally notice a ticking clock, then one time you will, and it's all you can HEAR! iyswim )

I am sitting here and both boys are making noise. Not talking (they can talk, btw when motivated! ), not repeating a phrase, nothing like that. Just sounds.

It is so LOUD!!!

ds2 "ah ah ah ah ssssss huh huh huh ah ah ah ah huh huh huh..."

ds1 "nineninenineninenine b b b b

ds2 "ahhhlaaaaahhhdaaadaaaalaaaahhhheeeeerrrrrraa" (in singsong way)

ds1 "ee-ee-rrr-aaa-"

ds2 "arrrr arrrr ah arrrr arrrrr ah"

ds1 "ww-ww-ww-ww"

ds2 "ar ar ara ara eh eh, ar ar ara ara eh eh. Glory"

Like I say, most of the time I don't notice - ask shiver, she is driven nuts every time she comes over, by a level of noise I don't even notice.

I wonder why they do it, they must just enjoy making sounds.

ds1 hums and taps.

Enjoyable for them yes, because it's repetitive and expected. But it's also teaching them how to tune into particular sounds or make particular sounds. Most children pick up that skill almost instantly, but others take a very, very long time indeed to do it and need to practise over and over again. Earplugs - it's the only way to survive!

DS2 doesn't do it all the time but is in a particular phase atm -at dinner tonight he was doing dickerdickerdickerdickerGLAAABOY!BighuuuuugsBighuuuugs
dickerdickerdickerdickerGLAAABOY!

I tend to tune it out - do try to give him a big hug if he asks, but sometimes he's just saying it. Occasionally I get caught out when he comes out with an intelligible word or phrase and I haven't been listening - and he'll NEVER repeat it
