Im a social Worker ( please dont shoot!) I qualified because I wanted to work with children with disabilities.....I now have a severely disabled 3 year old.

A job vacancy with CWD has just come up and Im eager to apply but wonder if it would be too much of a busmans holiday?!

Any thoughts?

really depends how you feel about it. Obv you now have even more you can bring to the job from personal experience and are better placed to empathise with clients. But aye - will it be all consuming? Can see both how it would be both deeply satisfying and too much iyswim

Since having dd I've thought about how I might want to do work in genetics counselling - its something I now am v intersted in and feel passionate about

Ive always be passionate about children with disabiltities wanting to create opportunities and and help them achieve good outcomes etc......and I am excited about this vacancy, mixed emotions though but I guess I wont know if I dont try!!. I guess my personal experiences can only be valuable and Id have genuine understanding rather than tokenistic nods in the right places.

Not really sure why I posted here now, just interested to hear peoples thoughts I suppose!!

Recently met a social worker who had a child with SN. We talked for about 2 hours at our first meeting and I felt she had genuine understanding of our circumstances.

It was brilliant because she gave the perspective of a parent and a professional.

I think you should go for it!!
