Got autism dx today!!!!

After 2.5yrs of fighting for our son(4.5yrs) and being told we were "bad parents" that nothing was wrong with him oh and that we cause his issues we got his autism dx.

Seen our regional autism specialist in april who said deffo not autistic which we were not happy with and asked for a 2nd opinion

they done ADOS?? test and was confirmed as autism today

Now I search for some answers/advice on how we can help him

Any info would be greatly appreciated as would any that we can feedback to his brothers 1 aged 6yrs and ds's twin

Well done on getting the DX.

My DS3 is 4 1/4 so quite close in age to yours.

We told both his brothers about his DX straight away and they have been brilliant about it and are a big help in looking after him.

You need to start applying for a Statement of Special Educational Needs for him now, and also apply for DLA.

Is he verbal? My DS3 isn't, but is making good progress with PECS.

Well done! Keep bumping your thread coz it's late, but there are some real experts on here. Really. I am stunned at how much I have learned just from reading their threads. You will find excellent support and access to info from them.

You need JimJams or Peachy. from what I've read Jimjams is shit hot on the statement stuff. Peachy too.
if all else fails, start a new thread asking for help re:statement.

Sorry you have had such a fight but good to hear you have a dx.

A Statement of Special Educational Needs will tell the school he will/already attends what his SN are and how they can be met at school.

I'm new but regular now and just getting used to who everyone is and who knows what about what. I know nothing about anything yet but have learned so much.
Is it too late to ask to see a special needs health visitor, as you are recently diagnosed?
The link TClanger gave re:DLA is a good one. There's lots of other stuff on there that I found really helpful

It's a legal document which outlines the amount & type of educational support which must be provided for your child. The school gets extra money to pay for this support.

I will look into this when we meet with his doc again after her holiday

glad you got a clear DX, be kind to yourself cos as much as you may have been expecting it, it is a shock and likely to bring up all sorts of feelings.
Be warned LEA are often not keen on giving statements, in fact some Lea think that if they tell parents that their child won't need a statement, said parents will believe them you cannnot get a place in any specialist school without a statement, I look at it as insurance, our three all have a statement.

Well done at getting a clear Dx! It is good to have answers so you can support your child. Hope you are OK!

There are courses run by the NAS for parents of newly diagnosed children.

A statement is a legal document listing a childs needs and how they should be met in education. If you think your son will need specialised support in school it is wise to apply.
Sadly it can take a similar level of persistance to get a statement of SEN. I found the ACE download advice useful www.ace-ed.org.uk also Ipsea www.ipsea.org.uk has some suggested letters.

you can recover your child if you act as soon as possible
for me there were three answers

1. www.treatingautism.com

and www.autism.com doing a bio medical intervention with nutrition. there are lots of recovered children using these sites and show you how..the earlier the better. 2.osteopathy to begin with on a weekly basis, we do it through foundation for osteopathy inlondon.

1. any kind of intensive3 play

e.g applied behaviour analysis sonrise at the autism centrer of america play therapy through the association of play therapists [bapt]or speech and language therapy [aslt] type in recovered children on my space!
