My child doesn't like geting changed for PE

My ds has got SEN and doesn't like getting changed for PE at school, it adds to the prolems with are having at school with him. How on earth do we overcome this fear (age 7)?? larsxx

I don't know if this will be at all possible, but would he be allowed to keep his pe clothes under his school uniform, so when he gets changed it might not be so problematic for him

Do you know what it is about getting changed that he is afraid of? Is it a fear that he will somehow do it wrong, or that everyone is looking at him or perhaps even just knowing that PE itself is to follow straight after?

Coppertop, I think it's the whole thing. A friend of mine works in the school and she told me, she was appalled with the way the head and the teacher was trying to yank his clothes off. She thought they was going to pull his arms out of his sockets. I've not said anything to the school about it as it puts her in a awkward position. But we are having lots of problems at school with ds and this is just another difficulty we are facing and to honest the communication between home and school has now broken down. I really don't know what to do as he just refuses point blank to do PE.I'm starting to feel is main stream school right for him as he only goes part time anyway. larsxx

could he not sit pe out for a while until you sort this out. head and teacher shouldn't be yanking his clothes off- you need to speak to them

lars you really need to find out what the problem is with your ds doing PE.
Is it the PE lessons or the getting undressed???

We had a whole year of problems with J and PE.....then we found out what was causing his problem....it was getting undressed and the school pumps he had to wear

J didnt like putting his school clothes back on because he thought they were dirty and needed to go in the washing basket!!!!!
When he gets undressed we have taught him to put his dirty clothes in his washing basket at home......but where was the basket at school?????
J thought his school clothes were really dirty and he didnt want the dirty clothes next to his skin!!!!
He would put his school uniform back on over the top of his PE kit.....or to save time he would put his PE Kit on over the top of his uniform!!!!
Teacher would loose her patience with him sometimes.....but eventually we got there and found out what was causing his problems.The solution was easy.....we just sent in a spare set of clean school clothes on PE day!!!!

Also the black slip on pumps that J wore for PE made his feet hurt when he ran on the wooden hall floor.....simple we bought him new trainers with thicker soles which gave more cushioning to his feet. The black slip on pumps offer no cushioning at all.....he hated the things.
You really do need to find out what it is that is causing him the problem before you can find the solution.....it's not easy and as I have said it took us nearly a year to get to the bottom of his problems.

Hi jaysmum have emailed you. This all sounds so familar, as pumps are another problem. The school insist they wear plimsoles around the school as they have carpet. But to be honest not all the kids wear them. The PE i think is taking part in a social group and getting changed is a major problem. School insist he changes , we feel that he is so upset with this it causes him major problems. When he has gone into the hall he curls up in a ball and hides in a corner. larsxx
