Exercise thread - queue here (puff, pant...)

OK, here it is - our own SN exercise support thread. I have to admit that I'm not starting my regime proper until next week - in my defence (m'lud) I've had a friend staying all week and was not prepared to jump about with Davina in front of him . But he did drag me up Glastonbury Tor yesterday (in the rain) so I've done a bit of exercise at least. Unfortunately I then had bubble and squeak with bacon/egg in a cafe...

As you can see I may not be the best person to exort you all to higher standards of diet and exercise - have the will power of a gnat.

Ooh, I shall join you even though my exercise isn't voluntary. I now walk for 90mins in schoolruns each day wearing an 11lb baby and pushing a 3stone DS in the pushchair up and down some very steep hills. Would recommend babywearing (or watermelon strapped to your chest) in a plastic mac for getting up a sweat .

Buckets · 12/09/2008 14:20

Don't have any scales unfortunately but pretty sure I'm back to pre-baby weight just since school started! Won't talk about what I eat as I'm breastfeeding so it's not fair on you guys.
Oh bllcks was that thunder?

Saker · 12/09/2008 14:41

I have been quite into the exercise thing for a few years and do quite a bit regularly ( don't all shout at me!) I know it's not a feasible option for everyone, but I have learnt that lifting weights is really effective in weight loss in addition to aerobic type exercise. (Plus it helps when lumping protesting heavy 7-year olds around.) So if you can get access to a gym or set of weights I would really recommend it.
[backs away, ducking flying objects thrown in her direction]...

luckylady74 · 12/09/2008 14:52

I'll join if I may?(have joined a few threads in diet before with no success!). Will weigh in next week as only started this morning. I'm aiming for my old smart trousers for a Christening at end of October. I currently drag two 3 yrolds to 2o minutes each way twice a day, but that's not sweat inducing! I am giving up alcohol (how will I get to sleep?) and butter sandwiches .
I have arranged a bike ride for saturday and monday so will see you here next Friday.

Buckets · 12/09/2008 15:43

Was just sniggering at your butter sandwiches but then realised that's the same as hot buttered toast really. Snigger retracted.

Saker · 12/09/2008 16:07

I just love butter. Even worse I love thick layers of butter with thick layers of peanut butter on top . When I was little my mother used to make me sugar sandwiches .

PheasantPlucker · 12/09/2008 16:10

Oh fab, can I join in? Will start back at gym next week after summer hols, and also plan to walk more and bus less. And eat less. I have found myself increasingly comfort eating when things are tricky with dd1. Not good.

Am at a wedding in Kent tomorrow, so no use starting till that's out of the way!! (my sister is coming to my house to look after dds overnight, what a star. She works in a SN school so I trust her with dd1)

Peachy · 12/09/2008 16:13

Sphil
no exercise intended here (am doing weightwatchers though) but wonderd if you were going to the carnival this year as my kids are on the float at glastonbury for once

luckylady74 · 12/09/2008 17:54

Pheasantplucker- I always say I didn't have a nervous breakdown I just ate instead! Every time ds1 starts screaming I find myself staring into the fridge will try some stair jogging instead perhaps.

Saker - butter, peanut butter and branston surely?

anonandlikeit · 12/09/2008 18:02

Oh so do we have to declare our weights here as our starting weights & then weigh in every Friday with +/- wieght??

How does it work?

kt14 · 12/09/2008 19:20

Efforts sabotaged yesterday by a pesky woman in WHSmith offering me a tub of mini oreo's for 69p. Yum yum. They've all gone now so i am officially starting the big diet plan tomorrow and will weigh in next Friday!
But - had salad tonight rather than Chinese so feeling a little virtuous this evening!

dustystar · 12/09/2008 19:25

Wow jimjams that is seriously impressive!

I'm going to start next week with a diet and exericse. I'd like to lose a stone by mid Nov as we have a big family party and there will be loads of the usual obligitory photos adn for once I'd like to be pleased with how I look instaed of being shocked by how fat i really am.

Seuss · 12/09/2008 20:15

I need to boost my endolphins a bit so I'm off to buy Davina tommorrow - guess we'll find out whether our flooring was worth the money!

luckylady74 · 12/09/2008 20:18

Is Davina really that good or will I do it once then leave it next to Cindy, Rosemary, Amanda et al ....?

Saker · 12/09/2008 20:43

ooh no not Branston uggh

Seuss · 12/09/2008 20:48

Peanut Butter and Branston? I wouldn't normally dismiss something I've never tried but the thought of that made me do a little sick in my throat.

I think the appeal with the Davina one is the fact that she has had three kids and isn't going to be doing stuff my pelvic floor can't handle. Anyone recommend any others tho?

luckylady74 · 12/09/2008 21:28

I have a whole host of fave sandwiches to make you barf - I recently had one of my top ten at my mum's - ham, pease pudding and beetroot!

Seuss · 12/09/2008 21:37

lucky - you don't need diet and exercise, you need therapy!

Seuss · 12/09/2008 21:37

I am strangley fascinated though - any others?

Seuss · 12/09/2008 21:38

strangely - not strangley

luckylady74 · 12/09/2008 22:03

Well I did confess to weetabix with jam and butter on another thread, but that's not a sandwich is it. Red leicester with golden syrup?

sphil · 12/09/2008 22:45

Saker - Davina does weights in the arm section of her video - does that count?
I'm joining you in the peanut butter+ butter sandwich fan club - which is why I need Davina...

Anon - I thought just weight loss rather than starting weights - might put people off! Unless everyone else thinks differently?

Luckylady - pros of Davina (imo)

  1. divided into three sections so you can do a bit at a time. I'm in a muck sweat after doing just one section - can't imagine doing the whole lot at once, though I'm sure some people do.
  2. wot Seuss said about children and pelvic floors
  3. she's quite encouraging Cons of Davina:
  4. See 3) above. Can make you want to hurl heavy object at TV
  5. She gurns a bit
  6. There's a vey irritating part at the beginning of every section where she giggles away with her personal trainers.

Peachy - What date is it this year? Would love to come, but DH is away from 10th- 14th Nov. and can't do it on my own.
