omega 3 thats flavourless??????

can anyone recommend a way to get omega 3 fish oil into my ds he wont chew the sweets cant swallow the capsuals and can smell the fishy oil at 100 paces if i put it in his yoghurt.. does anyone know of a brand that can be mixed with food but does not taste?? maybe a tablet i could crush????

tablets won't work as fish oil is only good as an oil. you can't take the taste out but you can mask it. there are many flavoured varieties on the market with flavours like orange and strawberry etc. my son was bought up on eskimo oil.

how long was it before you saw any changes if any??
i have manages to get it into him in his yoghurt

as my son had this from quite early on, I didn't notice any changes really. my ex used to put flax oil into his bottle on the odd occasion she fed him but he wouldn't have it, but into a baby yoghurt at 6 months was fine.
but when my sister used this for her 3rd kid, he improved a lot, he is just a cheeky pain in the arse backside now rather than the argumentative, disruptive and (the word that describes someone who likes breaking things for no reason that I cannot think of at this moment, maybe I need to up my oil intake?!! )

I am trying it but cant find the packet off hand, decided to try it after a friend pointed out that all the fish oil ones should be refrigerated and they are not even refrigerated in the shops, my asd son finds rthem acceptable, I always found the orange flavoured ones tasted distinctly fishy.

liquid oil in proper independent health shops is always refrigerated, certain multiple chain health shops do not even refrigerate friendly bugs!!
oil in capsules does not need refrigeration and some liquid oils only need refrigeration after opening the bottle., the eskimo oil I mentioned before does not need to be refrigerated till it is opened for instance and to be honest, if you go for veg source oil too, when the bottle is opened that too needs refrigeration or it goes rancid like fish oil.
vegetarian oil is not fish oil, it will be something like flax oil. vegetable source oils do not contain omega 3 as omega 3 is only from animal source, but veg ones contain ALA, alpha lineoleic acid which needs an enzyme in the gut to convert it to omega 3. around 40% of the population in this country lack this enzyme, so you could take all the veg oil you can and not get any omega3 from it!!

Bubble, in answer to your second question -we started ds on fish oils (EyeQ) at rising 3 and the effect was quite quick ie within days, and continued improvement up to a fortnightish. The most dramatic changes were to reduce his extreme impulsiveness and constant exhausting annoying 'ants in pants'(needy/noisy/destructive) behaviour (IYKWIM) but other things it helped were his skin (less rashes/ soreness) less dribbling and reduced thirst. We changed to eskimo a year or so later and felt that suited ds slightly better, We notice if he misses his eskimo oil after a few days - usually when we start to have really bad days again! Ds now 8 will ask for it - so theres progress! ( We store our oil in the fridge after opening - does anyone know if EyeQ should be refridgerated before opening as I occasuionally buy that if I cant get to the eskimo oil source across town and they are never refridgerated in the store). This is totally unscientific but I feel swopping oils from time to time is helpful to Ds- its as if the different formulations have mildly different supportive effects!

I sold my eyeQ bottles from the shelf as they only need refrigeration after opening. check the EPA and DHA levels between the 2 brands magso, I seem to remember that the levela of EPA and DHA (the two main parts to omega3) are a lot lower in eyeQ than in eskimo.
eskimo is a far superior oil in every way, but the power of TV is too great, I changed many people over to eskimo but I still sold eyeQ as you just could not convince some people that because eskimo was not advertised it didn't mean it was no good!!
if you ask any natural practitioner, they will prefer eskimo but will say eyeQ if the person is adamant.

Thanks Misi. EyeQ has lower levels of both (per 5ml) especially the DHA so the proportions are different. Is there a scientific reason for that? (I use a bigger spoon for the EyeQ!) EyeQ is available at all local outlets but buying eskimo oil requires a trip, Ds seems more 'switched on' with eskimo!

you can ghet eskimo mail order from many health food shops and online shops.
eyeQ lower levels as it is a lower quality. eskimo works out cheaper in the long run over eyeQ too.

and DHA Docosahexaenoic acid en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Docosahexaenoic_acid usually come in the ratio 3 EPA to 2 DHA eg 180mg EPA to 120mg DHA.

some products your can get higher DHA levels and some the other way round. DHA is more for the brain as it can pass the blood/brain barrier and EPA is more for the body/blood/health etc.

I prefer to use the usual standard (3:2) unless there are specific reasons not too as imbalances can occur.
