silverfrog · 08/08/2008 13:45

oh, here too.

dd1: "I want to sing doh a deer"
me: ok "doh a..."
dd1: "I want to sing doh a deer"
me: ok "doh a deer.."
dd1: "I want to sing doh a deer"
me: ok, "doh a deer, a female...
dd1: "I want to sing doh a deer"
me: yes, ok. Let's sing doh a deer
dd1: "I want to sing doh a deer"

and so on.

If I am lucky, she ill eventually move on, and then I get to sing the second line a million times!

ds1 keeps saying

'ayee yan' which is his version of an area of our city that we can see from our house.

So he points out the window 'ayee yan, ayee yan ayee yan ayee yan' I have to reply with the correct word every time but he won't stop, gets more and more frenzied. In the end I'm shouting 'xxx xxxx gone' 'xxx xxx finished'

aaagghhh

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 08/08/2008 14:22

But I;m at work now

I'll get it as soon as I go back though.

Hecate · 08/08/2008 14:29

Last night after the kids were (finally) asleep, me and dh turned to each other and ...

I chanted "nerve o steel nerve o steel nerve o steel nerve o steel"
while dh chanted "poo and wee poo and wee poo and wee poo and wee"

and then we both laughed for about 10 minutes.

I think the kids broke us!

My Ds also says "ayee yan"

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 08/08/2008 14:41

oh god ds1 uses 'ayee yan' to mean so much. And I'm in trouble when I get the wrong one.

Meltdown at Sainsbury's yesterday because I couldn't work out that it meant lampost (I;'d tried everything, granny's house, respite centre, uncle's house).

Silly me

Hecate · 08/08/2008 15:02

oh sorry, 2shoes!
It's about driving your parents crazy by repeating the same phrase over and over and over again! {delayed echolalia - autism)

OP posts:
2shoes · 08/08/2008 15:15

thanks. I did think that was what you meant.

Hecate · 08/08/2008 15:23

yup, sorry again, to you and anyone who read it and went eh? I do tend to forget that not everyone resides in Asdshire

Widemouthfrog · 08/08/2008 16:48

Thats a tough one

I have had all day
'can I wear my spiderman costume?'
(costume on)
'yes'
'wash it tonight mummy it will be dirty'
'ok'
'can I wear my spiderman costume tomorrow?'
'yes'
'will it be washed?'
'yes'
'can I wear it tomorrow then?'
'yes'
'you will wash it tonight wont you'
'yes'
'will it be clean tomorrow?'
'yes'
'i can wear it then'
'yes'

You get the idea. Not quite echolalia but still driving me mad.

(as an aside, is anyone elses DC obsessed with the trailer for the China olympics - I think I should record it and play it on a loop because it produces instant silence in this house, except for the utterance 'I've heard that before haven't I'.

magso · 08/08/2008 18:33

Ah - the stuck record mode! We are suffering at the moment!

ouryve · 08/08/2008 22:36

I'm so thankful that DS1's stuck record thing is "I being good, mummy" whether he is or not. He says it in such an earnest tone of voice it's hard to be annoyed by it, even when he's driving me up the wall.

I'm positively liking DS2's stuck record thing. It's "Bwa bwa" and I think it actually counts as speech, because he says it to either refer to a car or to a toy that can be pushed or rolled on the floor (brum brum). I'm so hoping this one persists and gets built on, for a change.
