Could this be AS??

There has always been a question over Dd1's behaviour, and we are strugglingto get the help we need. She is totally out of touch with peoples feelings, hits, pinches, and scratches her siblings and cousins. She seems ok at school, but explodes at home. She has scratched a older boy at school, and she has only been there for three weeks. She screams and is very loud. She lines things up and doesn't like things out of place. She has learning difficulties and is immature for her age. She doesn't like change, and with her changing schools at the begining of this term, everything has gone to pot. She is repeative and like doing the samethings over and over (same bedtime story, same rountine Sp??)
We have been to CAMhs and they have said she has severe behaviour issues but they wouldn't dignose her with anything as they said it wouldn't make a difference. They did mention AS or ADHD at the time.
When she was younger she wouldn't look at you and even now I have to tell her to look at me.
Whjat do you think?

Why do they think it wouldn't make a difference? of course it would. (both to you and her). it sounds as if it could be some sort of ASD- but if it is then it needs to be diagnosed. Any chance of a referral to a developmental paed who knows what they are talking about?

I thinkl they felt that with her Diagnosis of CP, that that was enough for her, and didn't want to put another label on her

I'd say they were idiots! If she has other needs then giving them a name can only be helpful. Don't think it would be AS with learning disability but could be ASD.

Also, having an ASD does somewhat define the most effective methods of teaching as children with ASD are often separated from children other disabilities due to their particualr learning styles and unevenness of abilities.

The help she will/would need with an ASD is a different kind of help to the help she gets with CP. It's madness not to give a dx if she does have other problems. I would definitely push for an assessment with the Dev Paed.

Have you tried this assessment for Pdd. It was a link given to me ages ago on here. Pdd is a term used for mild asd (I think/hope!!!)

Hi mieow, I think the link Blossomhill has forwarded is the same test I forwarded to you ages ago, when I think your daughter scored just high enough to be on the spectrum? (I could be mistaken about this, but IIRC.)

Did you ever get a chance to discuss it with the paediatrician?

So sorry you are having these issues to deal with, when you have so much on your plate already

yes just redone the test and she still scored Modarate PDD.

Mioew - Think you should look into then to be honest. As my dd who has a language disorder scored 61 which was mild pdd and I think that is about right as she does have asd traits but they are very mild.
Asd is a brain condition and I think it can run alongside other conditions.
I mean a friend of mine's son has NF and I have always thought he was asd and then read the other day of a girl with NF who also has Asperegers.
I think it is your choice as to whether you pursue it or not and I honestly believe that a diagnosis is only worth having if it helps you out. If it meant dd got more help of some sort then it could be beneficial.
It must be so hard for you mieow as you already have a lot to deal with.
I hope I haven't across as I really haven't meant to but thought you would appreciate an honest pov.

BH she scored 120. Her teacher thinks she is "kooky" and a character, not quite sure how to take that!!

BH, I didn't take it wrong, don't worry, I think I have put it to the back of my mind for so long, as I have so much to think about atm (DS' operation, statementing process, getting funding for trikes, getting the school to asses DS for a computer etc etc)

I'm not sure how old your DD is mieow but, if she's quite young, many ASD features may seem mild. Left unaddressed they could and probably would get more severe, more complex, more embedded. So I suppose another reason to follow it up but it does sound like you've got enough going on I'm sorry to hear.
