I've posted on mn before about EBSA with dd age 8. In a nutshell we had to move her schools due to unresolved bullying and EBSA emerging. She is in general doing well at new school and has missed two days out of four weeks. It is still a challenge to get her through the door in the mornings, but the new school are being great with support.

The head from the old school suggested possible autism just before dd was moved, and it has crossed our minds that this could be at play. It is hard to know as the bullying started very gradually in year 1 and so it's hard to say if this was emerging autism or response to environmental stressors (ie the bullying)

We have mentioned this at new school. Obviously it's early days but they have said although she seems fine in school she could be masking and it wouldn't hurt to see gp, especially lengthy times for assessment etc.

Gp has offered appointment times all between 810 and 915, ie times that will disrupt the morning routine. I'm also wary of how it will be tackled/talked about during the appointment ie will dd be made to feel different/as if she is causing problems? She has explained this is how the old school made her feel and this gp has form for being quite standoffish

Just not sure how to proceed. I don't know whether to give it 3/6 months, and see how we feel, push for an after school appointment but I'm very worried gp will make her feel worse. I don't want her to think there's something "wrong" with her, she already feels some resentment over moving schools and is working with a counsellor, but she won't make any suggestions about possible sen

Sorry that was really long! Experienced parents, what would you choose in this circumstance ? Thanks

Personally, I would start the ball rolling for an assessment now.

If there is something you don’t want to say in front of DD, you could write it down to hand to the GP. Or have an appointment without her first.

See this is the thing, her gp is very old school. Doesn't seem to deal well with mh or "women's issues" (he actually said that once) and I feel like we will be dismissed as dd is coping well in the surface at school and is academically ok. However school obviously causes her a lot of stress for whatever reason, which could purely the upset of the last two years with bullying etc, but how can we know for sure? Can just see gp now referring us, I am guessing then we are left with purely private assessment at £3k which we have to choose bery carefully i have heard to make sure if NICE regulated and accepted by LA, and it might be totally pointless.
