DLA new claims wait times- let’s wait together!

Hi all, so I’ve posted on a couple of the older threads but nobody seems to be on there anymore so thought I would start my own one.

My dd is 15, will be 16 in February and I have phoned up for the form 13 times over the last 2 years which I know is absolutely pathetic. I myself have ADHD and ASD and just couldn’t face it. Form was sent late so I’m not expecting back pay if awarded though I did explain it was due to a medical reason.

sent first class recorded on Thursday 20th August and received a letter to say that SD was Monday 24th August- and so we wait.

DD has ASD, severe anxiety and agoraphobia plus asthma and was so bad I had to remove her from school to HE which was not what I would have wanted. Looking at other posts the times vary wildly with some people saying they were awarded in 2-3 weeks and others saying 6 months plus.

hope to find some others in the same boat to keep me sane!

Hi, good luck! I was the same with the forms, I found them so massively overwhelming I just kept giving up. Luckily I found a local charity who have helped me fill in the forms for both my dd and ds. I was awarded for ds back in June after only a 5 week wait. My dd sd is 15th July and I'm still waiting, the wait is awful!

Hi North thanks for sharing, it’s very stressful isn’t it? I literally had to force myself to do the forms as the thought of it was giving me so much stress.

my ds is now 23 but when he was 8 he was diagnosed with ASD. I didn’t apply for DLA until he was 10 in 2013 and from me sending the form off to receiving a back payment was 17 days! Those days are gone.

out of curiosity, what area are you in if you don’t mind sharing? We’re in the North West. I’ve heard lots about waiting times and outcomes being area dependent but I’m not sure what to believe over that.

nice to have someone else going through the same. I worked out my SD is 40 days after yours.

I sent mine off on the 20th August I think and got a text on the 1st September saying received. My DS is 12 and ADHD and SpLD. I did apply over a year ago before his diagnostic assessments and didn’t get anything ( also did MR ) but didn’t feel without evidence I could take it further. I’m determined though this time and put together a lot of evidence so hopefully enough. I have heard the wait times are a bit less recently for new claims? But that could be wishful thinking…

so it seems we may have sent our forms off on the same day. It’s been 4 weeks today for us since scan date. The board is pretty quiet regarding DLA wait times at the minute.
I think you will have much more chance of being awarded with evidence so fingers crossed for you.
im prepared to go to MR and appeal if necessary though by that time my dd will be 16 and can apply for PIP instead.

please update if you hear anything and I will too of course. It’s super stressful!

Just to add re wait times- there doesn’t seem to be a standard timeframe at all- I’ve been reading lots of Reddit posts on DLA and the times are wild in both extremes. The general consensus seems to be that 6-8 weeks is the average.

I hope so re timings!..last time I applied it was around 4-5 month wait but I have heard that’s improved. Yep I will let you know - fingers crossed.

I did a NC for my daughter this year when they scanned the form on the system I received a payment in my bank 11 days later - all in all from scan date took 8 days so rly rly quick - sending my sons renewal of Friday 💛
