Just read about subclinical seizures in another thread you were on. Am I right in thinking that when our neurologist says that 'my DS has constant spikes on his EEG but we only see a seizure when a spike lasts for 7 seconds or more', this is a subclinical seizure? Have never heard of this before. How often does your LO have an EEG? I feel, after reading your thread, that my DS is not being watched as carefully as he should be. I know when he has had a seizure (one that can be observed) because he instantly 'wilts' and asks to go to bed. He gets really upset and weak. These are thankfully few and far between, but am just wondering how constant brain activity could be affecting him developmentally. Any advice or links would be much appreciated.
Nat

I don't think she posts in the evening.

My understanding of sub clinical seizures is that these are seizures which don't register on an EEG. Could be wrong though.

Sorry for hijack Nat. Riven, dd3 is at high risk for epilepsy (mri results) but so far hasn't had any kind of seizure that we have seen, do you think it would be worth asking for an eeg to find out what's going on? We were told they wouldn't refer for one until it was obvious she had had a seizure but obviously it's something we are really worried about. Hope you don't mind me asking.

Nat, we have similar worries with dd3 over whether she is getting the correct care, the paed kept telling us there was no need for an mri or a genetics referal, I'm sure he only refered on to shut me up! Without the referal we would never have got a dx for dd3 but I don't really know enough to know what to ask for iyswim.
