Life a bit relentless

Just looking to vent on day two of the holidays!
I’m spending my days trying to stop my daughter from hurting her sibling, getting everything out of kitchen cupboards, soiling herself, putting small toys in her mouth. She doesn’t like going in the garden, so I can’t either as I need to be in to keep an eye.

Then evening comes and her anxiety means I have to sit with her while she falls asleep, which now takes longer and longer as she is older. If I sneak to bed she invariably wakes up so I find myself waking up on her floor at 2am. I never get time to chat with my husband… or anything else!

Tomorrow we have a family activity planned but she’s already saying she doesn’t want to go. If she does go, the journey will be stressful as she tries to open the car door or touch the controls. In all likelihood I’ll stay home with her while the others go out.

Just feels a bit endless! Anyone else?!

For the car you need child locks and a crelling harness so DD can’t reach the controls.

Has DD had a home OT assessment? Sounds like that would help. It can look at making the house safer and better meet her needs. For example, it can help look at locks on cupboards &/or on the kitchen door.

It’s difficult but I would keep small toys out of the way.

Does DD take anything to help with her sleep? Has she been seen in a sleep clinic?

Is DD getting any help with her anxiety?

You could look at social care assessments. A carer’s assessment for you and an assessment of DD’s needs.

There may not be anything suitable but you could also look at your local short breaks offer.
