Ds, aged 8 ASD having some agreed occasional time out of school to being dyregulated along with anxiety and other concerns.

Looking at finding some fun but educational home activities we can do, specifically outdoor based. Can anyone point me in the direction of where to find ideas or books recommendations please? Thanks

Are you only looking at activities to do at home or would activities outside the home but not at school work? For example, would things like forest schools, care farms, outward bounds sessions, or allotments work?

Muddy Faces have some ideas on their website.

The Field Studies Council have some resources. Some of which are for primary age DC. Lots is aimed at teachers, but there’s no reason you can’t use them.

The Woodland Trust has some educational resources. Again, lots are aimed at teachers but you can still use them.

The Natural History Museum usually has learning ideas on their website, some of which are outdoor based.

Some of LCB’s boxes can be tailored to outdoor learning.

Does DS have an EHCP?

In case you aren’t aware, if DS is unable to attend school full-time, you don’t have to make arrangements yourself, the LA has a duty to ensure he still receives a suitable full-time education.

Hi @ChasingMoreSleep thank you for all the suggestions, I'll certainly take a look through them.
Ds loves outdoor play and I did think some forest school stuff would be great.
He does have an ehcp and attends specialist school but regularly overwhelmed so ideally some extra days off which can include some outdoor play and a bit of learning mixed in would help, I hope!

The LA can provide provision otherwise than in school if you want to go down that route rather than make arrangements yourself. I would request an early review, and in the meantime request s19 provision.
