So...reading between the lines...I guess My son DOES have ADHD (at least)...

The paed rang me yesterday (about ds1's hair pulling) and then as a "By The Way" type comment...she asked for my consent to pass our details on to some researcher etc interested in working with families where there is more than 1 diagnosed with ADHD.
(which i jumped at the chance...always eager get ANY help/ help ANYONE!)

However...that can only mean 1 thing...and that is that she has reviewed all the forms I & school completed regarding DS3....including the conners forms....and must have decided he has got ADHD.

I'm not at all sad (as those familiar with me will know) as i expected this diagnosis.

And i DO want to have a TRIAL of METHYLPHENIDATE for him- infact when i asked the paed to assess him for ADHD, i actually said it was in order for him to try meds. (DS1 has had them for 7 years- and we have had absolutely no probs- till now where he is losing weight- so his dose is reduced for a few weeks to monitor)

I suppose, this is where i am 'lucky'.
The same paed- and only her- has been involved with all 3 of my boys since 1998!
So, i am comfortable with her- it is easy for me to ask her for what i want- whereas when i see yet another of the many G.P's at our surgery...i clam up every time i need help!!!

It's good to know what your dealing with isn't it. Especially if you've already a fair idea something isn't quite 'normal'. The research thing sounds like it could be helpful too.

Your paed sounds like a good one! Isn't it great when you come across someone who is good at their job and cares too! Continuity is def. good as well - at one point the school SENCO, the ed.psyc and ds' 1:1 and his best friend all left in the space of a term and he changed class and it also rather unhelpfully coincided with our house move - grrrrrrr. Strangely no-one could think why his behaviour suddenly changed...

yes seuss...when all those people changed around your ds- its like the 'blinkers came off' and the world around him had changed.

i had the same happen to me 3 years ago- that january- my psychologist announced she was leaving (March), My CPN announced she was leaving (April) and my wonderful next door neighbour anounced they were moving (May)

It was an awful time for me- i actually still desparately miss my neighbour. It felt like the rug was pulled from under my feet-

So for your ds- i cannot imagine how he felt!

I know! I felt bad enough - his little friend that moved was my friends little boy and we known each other years and the boys had been friends since birth. His 1:1 helper had been with him through most of nursery and admittedly the ed psyc and senco didn't know him that well but they had put together the first attempt at a statement and then we had to do that all over again too! Bleak times! Like you say - can't imagine coping with all that when he found it hard enough dealing with school anyway. It all went pear shaped in the end and he ended up moving to a special school. (I say moved - ejected would be a bit more accurate..) Don't know about you but also felt that it was one of the times I really could have done with my friend around and it was first time she wasn't there. Still - water under the bridge now - we got through it ok!
