Carer’s allowance for ASC child

DS age 11 is ASC. He’s just been approved for medium-level DLA but I’ve just realised that I could possibly be entitled to carer’s allowance as I have to take him to & from school every day (he wouldn’t be able to cope with getting there on his own due to the number of busy roads he’d need to cross) which prevents me from working full time (although I do work all the hours he’s at school). Can someone talk to me in really simple terms about how to apply for this?

If you work all the hours DS is at school, you may earn too much to be eligible. You need to earn £196 or less a week after tax, NI and certain expenses (e.g. 50% of pension contributions).

If you are eligible, you can apply online here.
