Is this a GDD diagnosis?

Sorry if this is a silly question. In our EP report done for our EHCP they wrote that my child presents as having a developemental delay and then later in the report says they have a global delay. Is this an official diagnosis? I meant to ask our developemental paediatrician yesterday but was focused on the autism diagnosis and forgot/ran out of time. We aren't going back for 6 months so was hoping to clear it up before then. If it isn't an official diagnosis how do we get one?

Usually a GDD diagnosis would come from the paed (often taking into account assessments from others in an MDT, including an EP). You could contact the paed’s secretary.

Thank you I have emailed them. I wish I'd bought it up yesterday but my brain is so Scrambled at the moment. Will we need other professional input do you know? The educational psychologist obviously said it and nursery reports showed a delay of about 2 years in all areas and slt reported significant concerns. Not something I ever really wanted to have to push for but we're appealing our EHCP and want her to get all the help she can going forward

No-one here will be able to say if the paed will want further input, I’m afraid. They may think they have enough information, especially since you already have input from other professionals, but equally they may not. Sorry, that isn’t particularly helpful.

EHCPs are based on needs rather than diagnosis, so try not to overly focus on GDD in relation to the EHCP appeal.

In case it helps in the future, it might help to make a note of anything you want to discuss/raise at appointments. Then you don’t have to remember everything on the spot.

Thank you.

I know but LA are being typically difficult and we're appealing for a specialist school and I'm hoping they concede before the hearing date as that's 2027. The evidence of need is very clear but I'm hoping an actual diagnosis might force their hand.

I made so many notes but most I was focused on the autism diagnosis as at our last appointment we hadn't seen any professionals and she said she couldn't give a diagnosis and I thought I was going to have a fight to get the diagnosis.

I'm hoping they pick up my email as soon as their back after Christmas. I just said that the EP had put it in her report and did we qualify for a diagnosis. If not then I've got to do a 2 week sleep diary and send it off and I think she's might call me after I've done that. Otherwise we're back in 6 months when we will (hopefully) have started school (if the LA pull their finger out)
