I have twins with CP & GDD. They are nearly 3. They are crawling and have just one or two words, their understanding is coming along beautifully but they are most definitely delayed.

Im looking for any tips from anyone who has trained a similar child, and how you went about it. The usual suggestions don’t really apply to us, but I’m concerned that if we wait until they’re ‘ready’, it will be too late and much more difficult.

Physically we will need to put them on the potty/toilet for the foreseeable and that’s ok, currently they have a wee on the toilet every night before bath.

I think they need to learn the sensation of being wet so that we can then link a sign to that feeling & they can start to learn to let me know. Anyone tried training pants?

any tips at all would be appreciated!

I would definitely agree with not waiting until they are 'ready' as that may not happen in the conventional way. It sounds like you are on the right track with repeating simple toilet based routines every day. I used cloth lined training pants for ds1 ASD and significant developmental delay and again I agree they are the way to go as they help a child understand the concept more esp if they are language delayed. The main advice is to keep it simple and keep going even if you think it's not working, it will click one day ! Good luck !
