Hello, I’m looking for some suggestions please!

DS6 has high needs ASD, possibly ADHD and also Global Development Delay. He is non verbal and gets very frustrated with his inability to communicate.

He uses PECS at school, but doesn’t seem to like using it at home. We were referred to Early Support and we’ve been told that they can fund an AAC device for him, which we’re so grateful for. The issue that we’re having is choosing which device would be best.

His teacher only mentioned an app, but we don’t want to install an app on a regular tablet because he’ll just want to go on YouTube instead.

He loves his tablet and can navigate screens very well. What devices have your kids found easiest to understand?

Is DS under SALT? They should be able to advise what will meet DS’s needs.

I don’t have personal experience of them but I know someone whose DC uses one of dynavox’s devices. There is also GoTalk but I think that is quite limited. Lots are app based. If you wanted to go down that route, some people have a device just for communication and lock it down so DC can’t access random things on the internet, games, etc.
