Speech and Language Unit:ASD Unit

Just to clarify - Is a Speech and Language Unit only for non ASD children ?

it certainly is here- therfore ds3 oesnt qualify (but as he hasnt yet got a written dx he doesnt qualify for owt else either)

It depends from area to area. I was told by a teacher that taught there that in my city that the Speech and Language units do take children with ASD. But then SALT were dropping hints that they wouldn't. Ho hum...

I'm researching for next year September 2009 when DS1 starts school. I did a search for ASD units on the Education Dept website and a list came up that included a primary school with a language unit which is close to us and is catholic ( not a big deal in itself as ASD comes first but is suitable for us) . However if (a) they wouldn't take him and (b) it wouldn't be right for him anyway, we would have to score it off the list.

phone the unit up and check with them about admission criteria and procedures.
