Blue Bagde refusal

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of refusal of blue Bagde. This is my second time applying and furthest I’ve got. We had an assessment with OT over telephone. We scored 2/3 for the hidden disabilities criteria. The section we failed on was coping strategies as they have stated in appeal because I use a range of coping strategies my child does not need a blue Bagde. However, these coping strategies demonstrate how much my child disabilities affect them day to day and how severe our day is mitigating going out. They stated they are a danger to others/themselves and also stated that they have a disability that affects them. I can’t help as though they applied coping strategies wrongly within the guidelines and although OT assessment was a recommendation they are solely relying on that to decline. I would really appreciate some input or advice.

Hi i would appeal was it just the Blue badge scheme occupational therapist that assessed? I would say your coping strategies are getting more and more difficult to manage, do you have any supporting organisations that can speak for you/him

Do the coping strategies require easy and quick access to the car? Is it dangerous to DC or others to walk across the car park before/during the coping strategies? Do the coping strategies require more space around the car? Are there times the coping strategies don’t work?

Do you have evidnece?

I have provided quite a lot of evidence an OT report, education psychologist, ASD diagnosis, recent paediatrician report detailing difficulties, SALT report, ECHP etc.

yes it was the OT from the council assessing. My child is 4 years old. So we only receive the care from DLA, currently appealing the mobility element.

yes I highlighted all those things, it seems as though the OT has twisted my words and states that the coping strategies demonstrate I can cope when it is the opposite. It’s only that one section where we failed. It is very frustrating isolating for us at the moment. Yes the coping strategies are not effect as everyday is different and going out is so unpredictable I’ve highlighted all this.

I can't remember if you can appeal a BB but If you can you should or just reapply omitting your coping strategies because as your child gets older they might not be so easy to manage.

You can appeal it will be on your LA website where you applied.

You can request a review of the decision. Do that and explain why the coping strategies don’t work all the time and any of the other points I mentioned in my pp that apply.

If your appeal for HRM DLA is successful, DC will automatically qualify for a blue badge.
