hi there, i have a review for my son on the 20th july but i may be away for 3 weeks as im a teacher and it's the only time i can get away with my four children im worried i may miss the review form, i only got my last review a year ago but only heard back in january , although circumstances are mainly same it's just things like medication and extra help from school etc thats been added as some things weren't fully completed like he had an assessment for asthma still n hospital appointments there fore the review date was set for a year later but because of backdate by the time review was done i. january in july my next review is due . Should i wait for t review and write circumstances are same and a seperate letter stating new medication etc or do a change of circumstances , i dont want to miss taking my kids on a holiday as they already go through a hell of a time with my severely autistic son n this is what my they look forward to in summer , almost like worth the wait after a year of physical n mental abuse but i don't want to do any damage to my application

Are you talking about Dla renewal?

ThatLimeHedgehog · 06/05/2025 18:50

yes child disability

My sons renewal is due 12/7 and I received my renewal claim form at the beginning of March, I would call them to see why you haven’t received it yet.

Are you talking about Child Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Child Disability Payment (CDP)?

If you are talking about CDP, you normally get 4 weeks to complete the review, so being away 3 weeks won’t matter. If you are talking about DLA, there’s no set date you have to return the forms by but they need to be returned in good time - for an end date of July you should have received the forms by now.

A COC doesn’t always result in a change of review date.

If the changes won’t result in an increase or decrease in award, I would just wait for the review.

it's child disability payment , it's for a review rather than a renewal, i'm on the higher rate but alot of assessments and hospital appointments were pending which is why they gave only a year before the next review but the outcomes are as expected ie just added changes like he also has asthma, grinds his teeth so got retainers for it, his eyesights weakened so got glasses and a stronger medication but his mobility and care which were all stated with his condition is still day to day pretty much the same ( apart from he's more physical and outbursts violent and more often ) . I feel bad my other children deal with this everyday and they deserve a little break away but i just don't want to miss t forms and have to go through t horrendous ordeal of starting a complete new application if i miss t deadline date so contiplating not going anywhere but just feel bad so wanted to check if there's any other options

Child disability payment isn’t DLA. Different benefit. Different processes.

For CDP, you get 4 weeks to complete the review. So going away for 3 weeks doesn’t matter. Even after the 4 weeks, they send another reminder,

Review and renewal essential mean the same thing. Just different systems.

thank you but i am sure if you do a change of circumstances it's possible they may use that as evidence towards a review , i've also just learnt that you can actually call them up and ask them to extend the time if you are going away, as one week may not be enough as sometimes i need to request information from a gp or a support worker to support my application and it can take longer than a week

You can collect evidence in advance. So then you only need the statement from someone else (and even then, a statement from someone else isn’t essential).

ThatLimeHedgehog · 11/05/2025 12:34

thank you so much, do you reckon new prescriptions evidence, and a letter from his pastoral care teacher who looks after him in school and has a care plan in place is enough for evidence

It is impossible to say without knowing the content of the letter. It may be. It may not be. A prescription alone wouldn’t usually be sufficient evidence.

ThatLimeHedgehog · 11/05/2025 18:55

he is on the higher rate and tbh in his last review i gave so much evidence , since then its not much change apart from medications , addition of inhalers , retainers to stop biting, teachers to further help him and a million things getting broken around the house, but his general care day to day and mobility is still the same as last review
