Studying at different schools

Hi my child is due to have an annual review. He will start his GCSEs in September of this year. One of the GCSEs he is studying will involve him doing a course after school and he will have to travel to a different school. His current school supports him studying at another site and will also support him with the subject he is studying. He is quite capable of travelling once he is familiar with a route but I am wondering if there is anything else I should be considering. He will be coming home much later. Does anyone have a child studying in two different schools and if so, did you require additional provision to support this method of study? Thanks in advance.

You would need to make sure staff at the other school are aware of DS’s needs and the support he requires including any training etc. and that it is set out clearly in the EHCP. Would DS need transition visits to the other school? Would he need transport or travel training between the school sites to begin with? How will he cope with the longer days?

Thank you. I believe a transition visit would be a great idea; I hadn't thought of that before. Regarding travel, I will accompany him for a few weeks. I think he may struggle with the longer days at first, but hopefully he will adapt. Since he is not taking as many GCSEs, I hope he will be able to manage.
