Asd Burnout and school

Ds aged 7 asd. Very limited speech, started at mainstream school in reception as was regularly burnt out. Kept running off, wouldn't sit in class hiding crying unable to complete basic tasks.
Thankfully last September he started a special school and all was going OK until last couple of months where there's been a huge decline and he's almost back to how he was at mainstream. He's having toilet accidents, huge meltdowns on return from school. Unable to talk at all even though he only says a few words. He's not ever been able to express himself so we have to play detectives. Spoke to his teacher and she's concerned saying she knows he can do certain work but isn't. I assume he's burnout and now easter holidays he is exhausting! He won't keep still, running constantly and upset easily. I want to speak to teachers on return but not sure what to suggest?!

Thanks.

What has the school tried? What support is the school providing? What support for DS’s MH is there in the EHCP? What about SALT and OT (importantly, including sensory OT)? Does DS go on transport?

Has an early AR been requested?

Do you have any sensory equipment at home?

Can DS communicate in other ways?

Hi thanks for your reply. Ehcp yes and review next month. As part of appeal we requested ot and salt which is due to start next month, they agreed the school but rest was appeal which concluded recently. I was going to suggest a meeting with teacher but given he's got review soon not sure if the teacher attends this?

Check with the school. Best practice is for the teacher to attend. However I have known them not to!

SALT and OT should be able to unpick the difficulties and help support DS.
