D Day tomorrow

Hi all

tomorrow my Ds has his last CDC assess and 2 hours later i have the disscusion and the dx delivered. I just wanted to ask if anyone had any advice, regarding questions for the panel? I am pretty sure we will get a dx of ASD, i have had it said by the SALT and pead and the psy visited him at nursey for 2 hours this week, she spoke to the staff who seem to think i will get a yes from her too. Of course it's what i want as i know he is on the spectrum and i need a dx to get the help but it still has a sting in the tail everytime someone else says it to me.

Thanks for everyones support over the last 4 months, you have given me some invaluable advice. I will let you know how we get on as soon as i get my head around things.

Good luck chuck. I would ask questions about what support will be offered, when and by who.

I'd also find out who your key contact will be at the CDC from now on.

Also what they think his difficulties will be and where he will need most support.

Hope it goes OK. My J was dx'd 4 months ago and I don't think it's properly sunk in yet, but it is a way forward once the dx is there. You know what you're dealing with then.

Well thank god that is over, DS got a dx of autism as i thought he would. The discussion went as well as can be expected, they were all lovely about ds actually. When i asked what his strengths were the pead replied, 'that he is such a lovely little boy'!

So i guess this is where it all starts then. I'm not sure how i'm meant to feel but it's all a bit numb really and i am just keeping busy ringing up people to sort things out and get things moving. Relief is how i felt when i was first told dx as i was worried sick they were going to send me away, still in no mans land.
I was a wreck all morning in the last assess, it finished at 12 noon and ds went home with my mum. My discussion was at 2pm and 5 mins before i went in i gave myself a talking to, saying to myself i needed to keep it together for ds so i could hear what was being said, and bloody hell i did it!

This might sound weird but i feel kind of enpowered, i don't feel like a fake anymore and i will now not put up with any crap from friends or family who say,'he's fine and will grow out of it', etc!

Ds is still keeping SALT and he will see OT too. Social worker is coming to see me next week and so is pre school incusion. So things are happening and i will keep posting as they do.

glad things seem to be coming together now you've got the DX. don't feel obliged to be strong 100% of the time - you can come on here and moan to us anytime!

TC- thankyou, i will be on to moan i'm sure and i'm pretty sure it will hit me hard sooner or later, i have shocked myself how well i'm coping atm but i am under no illusion that i will break at some point AND that's where you ladies come in!

Pleased for you that you have a DX, i know that it ends that "am I making this all up?" feeling, doesnt it? I think its great, because as you say, you know where you stand, and there is a path to follow now.

It took me nearly 3yrs to get a DX of ADHD (dyspraxia and dyslexia) for DS1, and there were times I doubted myself. But that was nearly 10yrs ago (OMG where did the time go???)

But now unfortunately it looks like DS5 is on that same path . DS5 is a smidge off being 2, and Im convinced that he has Autism, possibly dyspraxia too. I was wondering how old your DS is and how long it took for a DX for him, I know it varies round the country - but im really hoping it wont take as long as it did for DS1!!!

sorry that doesnt read well - i meant he has: ADHD and Dyspraxia and Dyslexia.

Sorry misscutand stick only just saw this post- My Ds is now 3.3yrs and me first saw pead in Dec after waiting 4 months. Then it took another 5 and half months to wait for CDC assessment, this lasted 2 weeks and i finally got a dx 9 and half months after first speaking to HV. Good luck with DS5
