Hi everyone. I’ve posted a few times and I’m not even sure if this is a question or more somewhere to chat really.
My son is 3.5 and his pre school have just submitted the ‘get to know me’ form for him. He’s very hard to describe when writing it down. He’s verbal, but delayed. Has loads of speech now, and is able to get needs and wants met, and can tell me things and answer some questions but he isn’t conversational. His private SALT has said that she is very convinced he will get to that point. He has made huge progress in the last 6 months.
we are having issues in behaviour lately around him not getting what he wants which can lead to big emotions and outburst. He will cry, shout and throw things. He doesn’t hit though. All I’m currently doing is saying firmly ‘no shouting/throwing’. I can often just give him the look and he says ‘sorry mummy’
i don’t know if he’s going through a bit of a developmental leap and this is the reason for his outburst because generally he’s pretty good.
a bit of a description: he has 100s of words, phrases and can speak in 3/4 word sentences although has to be encouraged to use his words. He knows so many animals, knows all his colours, numbers 1-12, shapes and recognises a few letters now. His attention and listening has improved a lot now since SLT and his understanding has vastly improved. Physically he is very good and doesn’t seem to have any sensory issues (SLT agrees) - she feels he has more of a social and emotional type asd.
does he sound like anyone else’s child? Can anyone offer any advice.
TIA! x
