Hello, Might anyone recommend independent schools with great SEN provision. I'm looking at what options we have for secondary for my son who is a very bright child but academically it all translates to middle of the class attainment. He is also musically gifted.
Please do share any schools you think are worth looking into. We in St John’s Wood so preferably something in the north-west and the west of London with surrounding areas.

Mainstream or specialist? It is very late to be looking for September 2025 so you will be limited to whoever still has spaces.

unfortunately we didn’t get any offers from the independence schools. London Park School and Kensington Park school, Maida Vale school all Didn’t offer him a place.

I don’t really want him in a special school as I feel him my regress academically.

he’s a very bright boy and his main need is speech. He struggles with having conversations although he can communicate his needs.
We visited Blossom house yesterday for an assessment day and they loved him but again I don’t think they push the kids academically.

He has an upcoming trial day at Abingdon house next week.

So if you can suggest any Specialist with a mainstream style settings or a mainstream with a good SEN provision.

With significant speech needs, I’m not aware of any supportive independent mainstream who is likely to admit this late in the process, I’m afraid. Mount House might be worth a try. I don’t know if they will have space though and depending on the level of speech needs, they may not be able to meet DS’s SEN.

It would be a long journey but have you looked at Egerton Rothesay if DS would cope with the journey.

Depending on DS’s precise speech needs, have you considered Odyssey House?

Does DS have an ASD diagnosis? That would open other possibilities.

I presume DS has an EHCP? What has been named in there?

DS has a diagnose of ASD and also has EHCP he currently attends a mainstream junior school and his in year 6.

If DS has an ASD diagnosis, have you considered Holmewood, The Rise and Hillingdon Manor?

The phase transfer EHCP should have been finalised last month, so what placement for secondary is named in there?

mainstream was named but LA are open to us seeking other options such as Specialist.
