8yo dd has a high degree of tactile sensitivity. She feels pain really badly. Often the sight of blood also sends her into a panic.
Anyway, she took a tumble coming out of school today and grazed her knee and hands. She will not let me touch the wound to clean it up. I've tried giving her control to do it herself in her own time but it's painfully slow progress, and she wants me there but still won't let me actually touch the wound to clean it. She was the same when she cut her finger last summer (blood everywhere and no way to assess the wound itself). I live in fear of her breaking a bone!
How do others cope with this, are there any tricks to keep her calm enough to allow me to properly clean the wound? She did eventually clean it, and looked to do a reasonable job but probably not as thorough as I'd recommend to avoid infection (I'll convince her to soak it in thr bath later when she's much calmer and the initial pain subsides).
