Carers Element Backdate

Hi All,
My daughter was awarded HRC November 23, and as I was working I did not realise I was entitled to carers element (never knew carers element existed only carers allowance!)
I have requested back pay from daughters award date, they have messaged to say it's been verified and they sent it to DM now and can't give a date on when decision will be made.
Just wondering if anyone else has any experience with this? On the likely hood it will be backdated and how long it can take?
Her renewal for dla is November so no doubt will be waiting months for that desicion to let alone this on top Hmm

Hi can you please let me know what is carer element in uc i am getting carer allownce and i didnt apply for carer element.

If you care for someone you can apply for carers element by going onto Uc and reporting COC.. I didn't know about it either, as my DD gets DLA was never told

This is a case of how long is a piece of string.

Most are backdated. If it isn’t in your case, you can challenge the decision.

Hi i am claiming carer allownce for my husband and in my uc i am caring for someone and it shows 198.pound something and then they are takin of money 345 or something is this mean i am getting caree element and they taking off the money becouse of my carer allownce.

StrivingForSleep · 10/03/2025 14:49

@Nirzhara your UC includes a carer’s element and carer’s allowance is deducted £ for £ from UC. That is right.

Nirzhara · 10/03/2025 16:50

Can you plz tell which one is better should i stay on carer allowance or should i fully claim carer element

StrivingForSleep · 10/03/2025 17:37

It doesn’t have to be one or the other. If you are eligible for both, you should have both.

I am not sure what you mean by fully claim the carer element? If you have the carer element of £198.31 on your UC statement, you are claiming the carer element - there is no fully or partially about it.

Hi. I know this is an old post, but I’m in the process of waiting for a decision on backpack for carers element. Exactly the same as OP. Claim started in November 2023 but only just found out about it. How long did it take to get your decisions and were they positive? I’m about 12 days in so far.
