A question re Equasym and Medikinet

Hi there, just looking for advice from anyone with better knowledge than me re these meds. I know they're both classed as methylphenidate but is it a bad idea to switch from one type to the other? DS had some aggression issues today and was very anxious at school.

We normally use medikinet but were given equasym by chemist last time. We noticed a spike in his anxiety when we used that one but had some Medikinet left over so kept using that up. I gave him equasym today from that previous pack as the medikinet ended yesterday.

Is it a "thing" to have these issues if brands are switched? Or should it not matter? Got a review with consultant later this month but thought I'd ask here meantime thanks.

Hi there, it can indeed cause issues switching to different long release products. You might want to ask this question in the long running adhd meds thread I started about three years ago which is a few threads above this one, as some on there have experience of equasym and also of switching.

You might find this guide useful which was recently posted on the long running thread

https://www.choiceandmedication.org/awp/generate/handyfactsheetmethylphenidateswitchinguk.pdf www.choiceandmedication.org/awp/generate/handyfactsheetmethylphenidateswitchinguk.pdf]]]]

You can see on here that the two meds you have been using have different release patterns.

You will see the guide says:

“Switching products or Type could unsettle you.”

“It could affect your sleep and how well you can do during the day”

Thanks, I'll pop over to the thread and have a look. Appreciate the links also, they've been v informative
