Tier 1 Positive Behaviour Support Plan - autism

Hi all,

Our DS1 is 6 and is non-verbal with quite severe autism. Thankfully, he has a place at a specialist school from the council. Today they sent a tier 1 positive behaviour support plan that lists various things he struggles with and some strategies. This isn't something he's had before. They want us to sign it.

Has anyone had this type of plan - is this typical or is this meaning interventions beyond normal for the special school? Thanks for any help/advice!

Not all DC in SS have a behaviour support plan. It depends on the school and child.

Before signing, I would request a meeting and think about whether you need an early review of the EHCP.

Depending on your views, you might want to ask what they mean by positive behaviour support. Some mean it generally to include all support for a pupil’s needs. Others mean Positive Behaviour Support as in the specific approach to behavioural management and not everyone agrees with that approach, so it will depend on your views.
