DLA should I wait?

My son has cerebral palsy, lucky it is relatively mild but there are things he cannot do. I was refused DLA last year but and going to apply again as his consultant said I should.

my son will be 3 in May, should I wait and apply for the mobility part too or try and add that on afterwards? I’m not sure how I would add it on? I’m just not sure what to do, I want to apply for the mobility part, he does have limited mobility, but he’s not 3 u til May. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Apply when he’s 3, do the whole form with as much evidence as you can, what they will do they may award him the care element and then say to you you can apply for mobility lower rate when he’s 5, this is what they did with my daughter.

I would apply now. With the current wait times, it is unlikely the claim will be decided and an award made before DS is 3, anyway. If by some chance it is, it doesn’t matter - so close to 3, if DS qualifies for HRM, they are likely to award the care component when the award it decided and state HRM from 3. And if DS doesn’t qualify for HRM, it doesn’t matter if you apply before or after 3 because LRM can’t be given until 5.
