Hello,
My daughter is nearly 4 and has recently been diagnosed with autism with a pda profile, although I had a suspicion she may have a pda profile I never thought she would be diagnosed with it at her age or at all from what I’ve been reading as some paediatricians won’t diagnose it. My question is for parents that’s had a child diagnosed early on does it get any easier? Have they managed in mainstream school or have they needed to go to a specialist school? And do you have any useful advice on parenting a child with pda autism?

My DC don’t have a PDA profile, but the PDA society’s website can be helpful. Some find Yvonne Newbold’s resources helpful too.

There’s no one answer about whether it gets easier or not. Some find it does. Some don’t. Some find needs and difficulties change and it ebbs and flows throughout life.

Some manage in a supportive mainstream. Some don’t and need a special school. Some end up with EOTAS/EOTIS or their parents decide to EHE. A good EHCP can help.
