Why does it always happen like this??

Next week dd is due to do 3 sessions at mainstream nursery-she will continue to do the other 2 at SN nursery.
This has been organised for some time and the days were set months ago.
I am obviously quite keen for her to get settled in a good routine at mainstream but I am still unsure of what extra provisions they will have in place for her now she is doing more sessions.
Anyway....ramble,,,,ramble,,,I have been fighting for SALT for 3 years now and have always told the CDC my opinion that if there isn't the therapists to go round, get together a group and teach the parents some exercises that they can be doing at home with their children. Would you believe it, the group sessions start next Tuesday, and run for 6 weeks!!!! Do I take her out of mainstream nursery?
On top of that I had a call from the Disablement team today, about assessing dd for a major buggy!!Guess when-Wednesday, another day she is meant to be attending mainstream.
I simply can't afford to turn these down, if I do god only knows when the next appointment will turn up and she is desperately out-growing her standard buggy- she is just above the average heigh for a 3 year old and off the DS height chart completely.
WHY!!! WHY!!! WHy do all your best laid plans go to pot!

It's always the way. IMO, I would go for the group SALT stuff and the buggy appointment. Could she do two days at mainstream until the SALT thingy is finished? And the buggy appointment is a one-off so wouldn't worry. Thinking of you and hope you work it out

I'm going to have to . I can't afford to wait another couple of months for a buggy assessment. The wheels are starting to wobbly and I don't know how I am going to manage doing 3 runs a day to the school with no buggy at all!
I am hopeful that the nursery will let one of dd's "helpers" attend 1 or 2 SALT sessions, just to see the sort of things they advise to work on!
I just feel a bit awkward about it happening so early on into the term.

Oooh, that sounds like a great idea getting the nursery involved. There do always seem to be a million 'awkward' situations when you've got a SN child. I know exactly what you mean. But I'm sure they will understand and if they don't then it's not the type of nursery you want DD in anyway. They turn the major buggies around really quickly and the assessment is really just a formality so you should be on the road with one very soon.

Appointments are like buses. You wait ages for one and then half a dozen turn up at once.

Can the SALT go into nursery to give them some ideas? That's what ds1's SALT used to do.

I don't know about the SALT going into dd's mainstream nursery.
I think it's all a bit political and who should be pying for her sessions. We were originally seeing a SALT at the CDC, but as soon as dd started attending SN nursery, she should have been seeing a therapist through them-it's a NHS SNN. Only prob with that is that dd attends Mondays & Thursday. The SALT visits the nursery on a Tuesday, so tough luck to everyone else it seemed. That's why I started paying privately for SALT that specialised in DS.
Hopefully it will all settle down soon. I am still pushing to try to get a Home Visiting Teacher who I believe should help me in all this!
