You might have seen my other petition to allow every baby to have an echocardiogram soon after birth for 10 Downing Street. I have now set up a global petition and would appreciate if you could spend a couple of minutes signing this one as well and keeping this petition bumped up. Thankyou.
Information:
Every baby needs an echocardiogram soon after they are born (within 24 hours) to save babies lives and to prevent babies who have congenital heart defects getting extremely ill before it's detected.
Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defect. They are life threatening and sadly not enough is being done to detect them yet early detection is vital to help babies survive. Many babies with congenital heart defects can appear healthy at birth yet only a few days or weeks later things can dramatically change, the lucky ones are the ones who make it back to hospital in time but sadly many babies still pass away.
For the babies that make it back in time to hospital, their body has been trying extremely hard to survive and has become very weak yet they need open heart surgery to survive. Sadly this can be too much for many babies whos bodies are now very weak.
This is why early detection is vital to the survival of babies born with congenital heart defects and this is why all babies should be checked more for congenital heart defects.
