No Autistic children allowed

I was at a shopping centre today where they had a number of children's attractions. Ferris wheel, carousel etc. DD wanted to go on one of the rides so we queued up for it. Only one child was allowed on at a time.

When we got to the front, there was a young man (early 20's) taking payment and explaining rules of the ride. DD agreed to everything. He then said

'oh she's not autistic is she?'

so i said 'why?'

'No autistic children are allowed on the ride'

'why?'

'it's just policy,'

obviously the young lad was just going of a script he'd been told, but what would you have done in this situation?

Sorry to add DD has ASD and heard the whole conversation.

Oh no that's really, really awful I'd probably have just stood there in complete shock tbh.

Who owns/is responsible for the rides? Obviously you should complain to everyone involved.

I’d be calling the local newspaper. Name and shame them!

So sorry for your dd.

@Beth216 that's pretty much what I did but feel awful I didn't say anything now.

@Beth216 it's a big shopping complex so will write an email to them now. Just felt so awful for DD.

What you do is ask him to either repeat it for you to record him saying it, or to put it in writing. Then you explain to dd that he is breaking the law and you send the evidence to the shopping centre.

If you name where they are I’m sure we can muster some local dangerously autistic people to go down and see if he’s brave enough to say it again. It sounds like he took an opportunity to pick on a woman and her small daughter.

i remember someone was absolutely horrible to me a ds once for similar reasons, my home Ed group told me to post on Facebook if it happened again and they’d all come and support us. You aren’t alone, and there is legislation to protect you from this stuff.
