Flapping and jumping in 6yo

DS is on the waiting list for an autism assessment. School do not see any signs.

What I want to know is how likely is it a neurotypical behaviour to jump, flap and count at the same time.

So he will jump, flap and count 1,2,3,4,5 very quickly at the same time. To him he's timing how long he can fly for. He will talk to us about it whilst he's doing it saying he can fly so is aware he's doing it and it seems to be a choice to do it.

It usually happens when out shopping. I think he gets overstimulated.

Does this sound like an autistic stim or just a kid playing around?

This wouldn’t be common in a child without additional needs, in my experience. Although not necessarily ASD.

Following because my 6 year old daughter has always stimmed, mostly flapping and finger wiggling but she has lots of other sensory seeking behaviours too… I’ve discussed with her teachers and they have noticed but don’t think it’s worth pursuing an investigation yet. My daughter will say it’s when she feels excited.

interested to hear other perspectives!
