Hi everyone,

I applied for DLA very late. Actually, we picked up everything very late. It took my daughter facing school refusal, self harming, weekly destructive meltdowns for over a year before we had her assessed for ASD, got her psychiatric help etc.

My application S/D is 20 April, and now we’re getting closer to 15 weeks I am started to get more nervous.

I have read on another social media channel that it is difficult for teens who were not previously claiming DLA to be successful.

Is this true? My daughter is 14 (turning 15 in September).

No, it isn’t the case. If anything, it can harder for younger DC because young DC need significant care and supervision anyway so it can sometimes be harder to prove DC need more care and supervision compared to typical peers the same age.
