Private diagnosis for autism

Has anyone on here paid to get their child diagnosed, how much did it cost and what was the process?
Almost certainly DS has autism or global delay (Seco and his doctors agree) but waiting list is up to 5 years. It's not that I want DS labelled but without the diagnosis we won't get a lot of support.
He does get DLA and is EHCP is going through but there is so much we (I) struggle so much and all support seems to be with children who have been diagnosed. I'm guessing all children of his age (almost 4) have been diagnosed privately or is there a chance of him being diagnosed on the NHS?

The vast majority of support is based on needs, not diagnosis. What support are you thinking you need a diagnosis for?

Some young DC are diagnosed via the NHS. If you decide to go private and suspect DS has GDD I would go for a general assessment rather than just an ASD assessment.
