Family fund - sofa?

Hi,

I have applied for family fund for the first time, no doubt we are eligible but we will see. Only applied for a sofa as we desperately need one. our set was second hand already when we got it 8 years ago and has been completely destroyed by spills, accidents, excessive climbing and bouncing about (ADHD). I know it comes as an Argos card if approved, so just having a look what they have but don’t know if I should be looking at small 2 seaters or if we might be able to get a set, they vary quite wildly in price! There’s nothing online to suggest roughly what amount a sofa award might be. Just wondered if anyone has ever had a sofa application approved and how much you were awarded?

I’m not sure whether you have a social worker but very often there will be local charities that provide funding for children with disabilities for all sorts of things so it may be worth speaking to your social worker or having a look at your local council website to see what charities are in your area as it might be a lot quicker than waiting for Family Fund.

Hi, thanks for responding. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much local to us, I spoke to school and SENDCO and they didn't know of anything else, they were the ones who recommended family fund actually. We don't have a social worker unfortunately. Family fund have approved us today so it was pretty quick! Not sure if eligibility checking is normally the bit that takes longest - I had no doubt DS would be eligible due to the amount of care he needs and sent mounds of evidence so if so, that will be why. Thank you again!

Hi - hope you're doing okay! Just to let you know, we got approved today and sent a £500 Argos gift card for the sofa. Other info seems to suggest that that is the max they can give per award, I haven't received their email yet though just the Argos one with a note saying approved by family fund haha.
DS loves those giant armchairs (cuddle chairs?), my sister has one at her house and he's absolutely obsessed with it, so I think we are going to get one of those and a small 2 seater sofa. I will have to put something to that but not loads, £500 is a massive amount for us. Then when I can afford it I will get an extra sofa and maybe a footstool.
