Ds aged 6. Asd. He's behaviour for some time has been in decline and although has ehcp he's awaiting sen school place I'm working today and dh has contacted to say hes being especially bad today, no talking, crying and hiding, toilet accidents on floor and just very withdrawn. He had started like this yesterday when I was home but it's become worse I'm wondering whether it's burn out? I'm working all week and feel I should be at home to help though not sure what that even is?! Anyone had similar? Does it sound like burnt out. He has very limited speech anyway but hasn't spoke at all today ?

My dd asd, pda has times like this, for her it's burnout, change of routine, prefers me at home (always, but obviously not possible). Reducing sensory input (low lighting, low noise, smells) as much as possible also reducing demands, weighted blankets, pillows and screen time helps her to regulate.

Could DS be unwell or in pain? Could it be because it is half term? The longer term difficulties sound like they are from unmet needs.

You say DS is awaiting a special school place, where are you in that process?

Do you have a finalised EHCP? If not, when was the review? Is the LA sticking to the timescales? If you have a finalised version but it doesn’t name SS, have you appealed?
