Asd 6yo riding a bike

So we have finally decided it's time to try and teach our autistic 6yo to ride a bike. He had a balance bike age 3/4 years and loved it. Then came the scooter which at first he walked it and then he gradually learned to scoot. Thrn scooter broke so haven't had anything in a while just walking etc

So we got a 16inch bike last week with stabilisers. Have taken him round the block a few times for practice. But I've noticed his pedalling is weird. He will sometimes pedal round and round but more often than not he's either going backwards or doing this weird thing where he's just enjoying the pedals but not really going back or forwards with pedals but cos of stabilisers he's managing to get round the block

Was anyone else's child like this with the pedals and did they eventually pick it up?
