Delayed speech

My son is 6yo, autistic and has delayed speech. Speech is getting much better as gets regular therapy at school and he's now at the stage where he can very comfortably put across his wants and needs into words/sentences and is also spontaneously talking although this is a bit slower

And he SALT visited at school today and she had a fun toy which he loved and brought out lots of talking. It seems to be that when he's really motivated he will talk but he's not always motivated

So my question is, tor those of u with similar children, when did they start to realise (at what age) that it's fun to talk ?
