ASD friendly holiday?

Does anyone have any recommendations?

DD is 13, she needs her own space to sleep in, which seems to rule out most package holidays, she is also absolutely against flying but we can drive quite a distance.

For me, I would really like an all inclusive, we have done Center Parcs a few times but for me its exhausting, more cleaning, finding things to do, sourcing and cooking food, its just not a break at all for me.

There are all inclusive package holidays that have 2 bed apartments. Would they work?

It would make it more expensive but would a cruise with interconnected cabins work?

Interconnecting cabins could work, I'm really struggling with actually finding cruises, or at least ones where you don't have to fly to and from departure.

We also have our 15 year old son, so I would need somewhere for him to sleep.

Some companies do round trips from Southampton. P&O cruises and Royal Caribbean definitely do.

I'm sure it's me, but do you know how to search for those? I've tried, despite putting in a 6 month window can't find anything

Here is a list of P&O cruises with a round trip from/to Southampton. Royal Caribbean doesn’t have a filter for the round trip, but here is a list of the ones leaving Southampton and some of them return to Southampton.

Thank you, I really appreciate the help!

ASD child has enjoyed some narrowboat and cruiser holidays if that might be your kind of thing.

Easy enough to find a layout with a little cabin just for her.

Phineyj · 04/05/2024 16:13

Le Boat for cruiser and Drifters is a good site for narrowboats (or ABC, but Drifters is direct to owners so slightly cheaper).

Headfirstintothewild · 04/05/2024 21:52

@Phineyj, do you worry DD will end up in the water. We were invited on a barge holiday. We declined in part because DS1 &/or DS2 would end up in the water.

Phineyj · 04/05/2024 22:10

She is a very strong swimmer and we waited till she was about 7. But after the first trip we have invited a family friend along each time as extra crew and eyes on. The cartwheels at the side of the locks were stressing me out a bit 😂.

Headfirstintothewild · 04/05/2024 22:15

Ha. DS2 is a strong swimmer but I know impulsivity would get the better of him. DS1 isn’t such a strong swimmer but I know he would go head first in during the first meltdown.

She has ADHD as well. The friends we invite are the kind who think nothing of a dawn run along the canal path with her cycling along behind...

Although I have moaned a lot about the early rising and physical activity over the years, last year she convinced me to swim in a waterfall which was actually quite fun!

These are DS2&3’s type of people.

The canals are often very shallow (although you probably wouldn't want to swallow the water).

Lock Ness was fun. We all wore life jackets rigorously for that one!!

I've not been but I've been recommended The Merton Hotel in Jersey more than once.
