Ds2 and school

My Ds2 goes to a special needs secondary school, past few months on and off he's been hitting staff and students, also hurting them too. I had another meeting a few weeks back and it was casually dropped in Conversation, that he could leave early due to school not been right for him ( more like getting rid of him) as they have done it before with other students, can they make him to leave early? I've got a EHCP meeting Wednesday and I'm dreading it. Any advice thanks.

Is the EHCP meeting an early review?

Is the school wholly independent?

Do you know why DS has been hitting out?

It's a council run school, he's been lashing out with frustration he's non verbal.i get notes in his home/school diary telling me his hit students and teachers.

If the meeting isn’t an early review you should request one.

The school can’t just kick DS out. They must follow the statutory suspension and exclusion guidance.

During the review process of the EHCP, the school could state they can’t meet DS’s needs, but the LA can (and must unless the LA can prove the high bar for one of the lawful exceptions) still name them if they are your preference. And, even if a review meeting is held ASAP, an amended EHCP isn’t going to be in issued in the next few weeks so the school can’t just kick him out via this process either.

How old is DS?

He's 17 18 in December.

Since the current provision isn’t currently meeting DS’s needs, have you thought about what other support is required to meet DS’s needs (whether he remains in the current placement or you look at another placement)? What support does the current EHCP include?
