Just looking for a bit of advice and people to share their experiences really, my 2yo ds has just had 5 referrals made by our health visitor at his 2 year check as he is displaying many signs of autism. He has been referred to portage, speech and language therapy, paediatric assessment, audiology assessment and occupational therapy. DS does not communicate with us or try to
communicate with us in any way, he doesn’t respond to his name and has very limited understanding, he cannot use any gestures or make good eye contact at all, and cannot get him to sit still for longer than about 10 seconds. I am a first time mum and I am just wondering what people’s experiences were with all of these things he has been referred for, how helpful were they? We have about a year’s wait I have been told which I know is good as some people are waiting a lot longer than this. I took him to a group yesterday which was suggested by the health visitor as she thinks he needs help as soon as possible but DS did not like it at all, he did not like any of the workers talking to him and screamed and cried most of the time when he was made to sit with the other children for
circle time, he enjoys running and pacing and this is all he wanted to do haha. Just looking for some positive stories really!!
