Hi. So I have a little girl who is 3.5 years of age. She is non verbal with little to no understanding of instruction, communication or direction. She is also currently on a waiting list for an ASD assessment. She is still in nappies though we have tried potty training 3/4 times over the last 1.5 years. I was never expecting anything to come off it I just didn't want to not try or dismiss her due to her needs.

Around 2/3 weeks ago I tried the potty again just on the off chance. She sat on it willingly and never did anything really. Then one day she stood up and started pooing I'm guessing the sensation of needing a poo while naked on a potty scared her I get that. She pooped on the floor and grabbed it mid air😂. She sort of freaked but we got her cleaned and we put the potty away again for this month.

So my little one goes to bed at 7pm every night. I put her into her room she brings some toys into bed and she plays she's usually asleep by 7:30. This is when I check on her every night to see if she wants me or if she's sleeping. Since the potty incident I have went to her room three nights and she has pooped and smeared it all over herself, the walls and windows. Which isn't the best out we get all cleaned and strip the sheets and clean the room.

I'm just wondering if any other mums have had this and what the outcome was? We're they ready for the potty despite being non verbal ? Where they sensory seeking? Just playing? While it is a very disgusting thing to deal with its part of my child and I'm just wanting to understand what she can't tell me. Thanks for any help!!!

Also to clarify. This is my step daughter who has lived with me, her dad and now little brother since she was 12 months old. She was highly neglected in her first year off life with minimal interaction or play. Since living with even though she is non verbal and communication isn't there she has came on leaps and bounds and now even wants affection, us to play with her and responds to pain or hurt and would cry for us.

It could be any of the reasons you mention.

Have you tried a vest plus and all in one suit on backwards (you can get adaptive ones with zips at the back, but I would try an ordinary one first)?
