Advice for 6 year old

At parents evening my son's teacher said she wondered if he may be on the spectrum (her words). He is 6 (year 1), doing well at school (especially maths), is sociable and has some good friendships.

He can get upset if his routine is disrupted and has emotional outbursts if something goes wrong though apparently this is improving at school. He claps his hands and jumps when he is excited. He has some intense interests and is fussy with food. Otherwise I would say he is just generally a bit kooky.

I don't know much about autism but I was just wondering if anyone had any advice. Should I just watch and wait as he is doing well at school or would it be worth pushing for an assessment? Thank you!

It is worth pushing for a referral now. The waiting lists are long so it is good to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later.

Request to speak to the SENCO. What support is the s good going to provide.
